Tanrevel® is Scandinavia’s best-selling self-tanner, combining advanced skincare with innovation. Their revenue is generated both from their own e-commerce platform and through resellers. Tanrevel operates with a slim team, which means all systems need to be streamlined for efficiency. To keep things simple and focus on the right priorities, Tanrevel decided to switch its e-commerce platform to Shopify at the beginning of 2025, selecting Codeunit as its integration partner.
"We have been using Business Central since 2021, and it is essentially the heart of our business. However, my goal is to phase out operational work in BC as much as possible. For example, I don’t want customer service to work directly in BC, it’s not a user-friendly system in that way. We wanted a simpler and more efficient setup, which is why we started transitioning to Shopify in August 2024." says Johan Jörnbo, COO of Tanrevel.

Choosing Codeunit based on recommendations
Tanrevel operates with a relatively simple setup; one warehouse, one online store, and a total of ten unique SKUs in its product range. Their products combine self-tanning with advanced skincare and technology, enabling customers to achieve a flawless sun-kissed look without compromising skin health. As COO, Johan Jörnbo is responsible for systems and integrations and has led this migration project. Together with their Shopify partner, Tanrevel developed a completely new design for their online store and a new frontend that allows for easy administration of the site.
Through industry colleagues, Johan was recommended to use Codeunit for integrations. "I heard that Codeunit is very skilled and easy to work with. They work quickly and efficiently without unnecessary complications, and that turned out to be true. I think Codeunit has lived up to that reputation very well. I explained the scope of the project and our requirements, and received a fixed price offer." Johan explains.
Pre-built integrations are customized
In addition to Shopify, Codeunit created integrations with Ingrid Returns and OngoingWMS, systems that Tanrevel was already using. Since no changes were made to how orders are processed, the integration was completed very quickly. Codeunit joined the project in November, and from start to finish, their work took approximately two months. This was possible thanks to Codeunit’s ready-made integrations, which were customized to fit Tanrevel’s needs.
"During the project, I worked directly with the person at Codeunit responsible for the implementation, who also handled project management from their side. It was great to have a project manager who also had the technical skills, it really made the process seamless. The team at Codeunit has been fantastic to work with." says Johan.

Custom solutions for unique needs
One of Tanrevel’s key requirements during the transition was to retain all historical data so that customer service could access past orders through Shopify. They also wanted to sync their data with Klaviyo to enable easy segmentation within the tool. The overall goal was to make the business more scalable and easier to manage. Additionally, Tanrevel had some specific needs that Codeunit helped address with custom solutions.
"Right now, we are working with Codeunit to implement custom fields for warranty management. We need to be able to track which batch a product comes from in case of a warranty issue. This requires fields in Business Central to see when we placed the order with our supplier, what the order number was, and so on. Codeunit is helping us bring these functionalities into Shopify so that customer service can handle everything there instead of in BC. This will make it much easier and more efficient for our current customer service team, and it will also simplify the onboarding of new customer service staff," Johan explains.

A scalable solution
Tanrevel has now achieved its goal of a scalable workflow and an easy-to-manage platform. Their new frontend allows for a much more dynamic website, and the interface enables all employees to update content. Most necessary integrations are now in place, making tasks like generating product data for Google or Meta much more structured compared to before.
"I might be cynical, but I don’t think our customers notice much about how our e-commerce looks. I believe it’s more about gradually building an engaging website that encourages people to return for inspiration. With our site, we want to answer questions like, ‘How do I get the best tan?’ or ‘How do I create freckles with my product?’ For us at Tanrevel, the long-term goal is to develop more interesting content, but that takes time." Johan shares.

Fixed pricing makes a difference
"Working with a fixed price for the implementation has been a huge relief. Not many companies operate this way, and it made a big difference in this project. Working with Codeunit has been a great experience, and they truly deserve credit for being so easy to work with." Johan concludes.
