“It’s possible to list endless advantages,” says Oskar Törnmarck from Omniarch, referring to the results after Mini Rodini switched ERP to Microsoft Business Central. Over a year ago, Oskar was asked to lead Mini Rodini’s ERP transition project, and when assembling the team to make the project possible, Codeunit was selected as the integration partner.
Mini Rodini is one of Sweden’s leading children’s clothing brands, founded in 2006. The vision is to avoid compromising on design, quality, and sustainable production. Mini Rodini's clothes are comfortable, sustainable, inclusive, creative, and unisex. Today, the company consists of two divisions: a Swedish company selling and delivering orders globally, and a UK company managing sales in the United Kingdom.
Two divisions within Business Central
“It essentially requires a separate company to operate in the UK. Mini Rodini has a structure with a Swedish parent company where the UK company is a subsidiary. In Business Central, we manage these companies as two divisions within the same installation. It’s always a bit trickier when using divisions, and it required more work than we initially expected, but nothing out of the ordinary. There should be challenges in a project of this size,” Oskar says with a smile.
Omniarch is a company with e-commerce consultants that have supported Mini Rodini for many years. When their existing ERP system was replaced with Business Central, Oskar Törnmark from Omniarch took on the role of project manager and has been working full-time on the project since. The feasibility study began in November 2023, and exactly a year later, the project went live, perfectly on schedule.
The potential to connect all systems
“At Omniarch, we primarily work with e-commerce implementations, not so much ERP implementations, but I have experience with it from the past, which is likely why I was assigned to this project. When I assembled the project team, I considered Codeunit, which had the potential to connect all the systems we needed, and they have a strong reputation in the industry. I also looked at similar solutions, but together with other partners on the team, I decided Codeunit was the obvious choice,” Oskar explains.
Completed a feasibility study for Mini Rodini
Before assembling his team, Oskar conducted a feasibility study to understand the project’s scope and required resources. The study examined Mini Rodini's current operations, challenges, and time-consuming processes.
“During the feasibility study, a lot of focus was on interpreting Mini Rodini's needs. Sometimes, one might think a specific system or tool is needed, but the solution could be entirely different. We must consider the customer's underlying needs when implementing a new system. It's about understanding what aspects of the old methods and systems are burdensome and eliminating those factors in a new workflow. That’s essentially the core of my job,” Oskar says.
Multiple integrations to Business Central
In this extensive ERP transition, Mini Rodini's employees are the ones noticing the biggest difference. Only backend systems were replaced, while all customer-facing and e-commerce systems remain unchanged. This means Mini Rodini's customers were unaffected by the transition. Codeunit managed integrations between Business Central and several existing systems like Ongoing, Centra, Sitoo, Delogue, and Reclaimit.
“My contact at Codeunit throughout the project has been Simon Forslund. He is an expert in system use, and I was able to consult with him on many matters. Simon handles configuration and implementation, while his colleagues write code for new functionality. Codeunit is incredibly skilled, and they have been a support far beyond what one could expect,” Oskar adds.
Customer portal key for traceability
“By collaborating with Codeunit, we gained access to their customer portal, which provides full traceability of how data flows between different systems—something we didn’t have before. Those responsible for system flows at Mini Rodini can now monitor data directly in the portal. It’s especially valuable for identifying and quickly addressing issues, continuously improving workflows,” Oskar explains.
Throughout the year-long project, a complex meeting and work structure kept progress on track. Daily stand-ups, breakout meetings, supplier meetings, project meetings, and board meetings to report status have filled the team´s calendars. The last three months, the project entered its most intensive phase, with daily meetings for involved parties.
The biggest challenge in implementing the new ERP was migrating all product data from the old system to the new one. Over many, many years, Mini Rodini had expanded its range with items of varying data quality, resulting in a vast amount of data to be transferred. “Data migrations are often tricky, and this one was challenging, but we got it done,” Oskar says.
Many advantages with the ERP change
A few months after the launch, Oskar and his team are handing over operations to Mini Rodini’s own team responsible for managing the operations. With Business Central as the ERP, the company is in a much better position than before, as the previous system was unique and made it difficult to find knowledgeable personnel. Now, recruiting individuals experienced with Business Central will be significantly easier.
Since Codeunit provides integration as a service, they continue to oversee integrations even after the handover. Codeunit still has visibility into the workflows, allowing them to act quickly if they notice any changes that need to be addressed, offering support and assistance when needed.
“A project like this is never simple—it can get stressful and messy at times, but that’s just the nature of such projects. Overall, so much has gone well in this project with Mini Rodini. We stuck to the schedule and stayed relatively close to the budget. This is a project everyone involved can be proud of. Honestly, it turned out very well,” Oskar concludes.
Handpicked team and expertise
“The most enjoyable part of the project was working with such skilled and competent people. The suppliers, including Codeunit and ERP partner Accigo, were fantastic. We chose the right people to work with, and internally at Mini Rodini, the team was excellent. We collaborated with all departments—e-commerce, purchasing, production, and finance. It’s truly rewarding to work with great people,” Oskar finishes.
